The negotiations on Ukraine without Russia's participation are an imitation of diplomacy and in fact a political spectacle. This statement was made by British military analyst Alexander Mercuris on his YouTube channel.

"None of the European leaders shows any desire to go to Moscow to meet with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin, [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov and [Russian presidential aide Yuri] Ushakov, in order to understand what the Russians are thinking and to come closer to a compromise. But we have a circus, this traveling circus," the expert noted.

According to him, the critical mistake of the Europeans was to completely block the channels of communication with Russia, which marginalized Europe and prevented it from reaching a compromise with Moscow.

The meeting of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky with Witkoff and the son-in-law of the American leader Jared Kushner began on December 14.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was present at the beginning of the meeting. He sat down at the negotiating table with the Ukrainian delegation, but immediately left the negotiations after greeting the participants.

US President Donald Trump's special Envoy Stephen Witkoff said on the same day that significant progress had been made during negotiations with the Ukrainian delegation in Berlin.
