President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that he was not holding on to his chair. This is how he reacted on December 14 to remarks from the American leader Donald Trump that Ukraine needed to hold presidential elections.

"There were signals from the United States about the presidential elections in Ukraine... My answer is that I'm not holding onto a chair. I believe that Ukraine should be ready for any development of events," the Ukrainian newspaper Novosti.LIVE quoted him as saying.

He also asked his Western partners to help him ensure security in the event of elections. And I appealed to the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada with a request to work out options for how to implement these measures if the situation begins to develop.

Earlier, on December 12, a resident of Odessa said that Ukrainian politicians had begun preparing for the presidential elections. She noted that politicians have begun to form "teams."

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on December 11 that Zelensky longs to remain in power, but he has no chance of being legally re-elected. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the idea of financial support for Kiev by Western countries for holding elections unprecedented.
