Leo Neo, who was injured by shrapnel during an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at the zoo in the frontline town of Vasilevka, Zaporizhia region, survived. This was announced on December 14 by Alexander Pylyshenko, head of the Vasilyevsky Rehabilitation Center for large predators.

"Thank God that everything happened like this and the animal remained traumatized, but alive. So let's hope that he will live for a long, long time," he said in an interview with TASS.

Pylyshenko said that after the APU strikes, the lion hid in an aviary, where he lost consciousness and showed no signs of life. During the initial examination, many fragments were found in the animal's body.

According to the head of the rehabilitation center, the injured lion began to recover a few hours later. The primary task now is to restore the aviaries destroyed by the impact in order to return the animals, including the lion, to normal conditions.

The governor of the region, Yevgeny Balitsky, announced the drone attack on the Vasilievsky Zoo and the injury of a lion a day earlier. According to him, the territory of the animal center was seriously damaged, part of the enclosures where the tigers were kept was destroyed.
