Ovechkin's transfer did not save Washington from losing in the NHL
Hockey club (HC) Washington failed to win an away match of the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season on December 14, losing to HC Winnipeg with a score of 1:5.
"Ovechkin's transfer did not help the team change the outcome of the meeting," Sport-Express notes.
Logan Stanley, Morgan Barron, Alex Iafallo and Gabriel Vilardi scored goals for the hosts of the ice, the Winnipeg Hockey Club, who scored twice. Jacob Chikran scored the only goal for the visitors, assisted by Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin. In the 2025/26 season, the 40-year-old forward scored 31 (14+17) points in 32 matches.
Winnipeg broke a three-game losing streak. The team is 11th in the Western Conference with 31 points after 31 games. Washington is in third place in the Eastern Conference with 40 points after 32 games, having suffered its second defeat in a row.
