The police have opened a criminal case in Astrakhan over the beating of a coach of a local sports team. This was reported on December 13 in the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Astrakhan region.

"The Astrakhan police are conducting a complex of operational search measures aimed at detaining a previously identified participant in the conflict, in which the coach of one of the Astrakhan sports teams was injured," the department said.

It is specified that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 213 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Hooliganism"). All the circumstances of the incident are currently being established.

Earlier that day, a source from Izvestia reported an attack on the coach of the Dynamo handball club, Georgy Zaikin. Returning from training in the evening along Bakinskaya Street in Astrakhan, he became a victim of aggressive behavior by the driver of a BMW car.

The coach himself told Izvestia that the incident began with aggressive driving by the driver of a blue BMW, who cut off his car several times. He said that the BMW driver started behaving aggressively, after which he ran out of his car and demanded that the coach get out. When Zaikin opened the window a crack, the man spat in his face, which provoked a fight.
