- A scientist from the USA spoke about the influence of Russian culture on his self-identification
William Broomfield, an American researcher of Russian architecture, said that Russia and its culture helped him realize his own identity. He told about this on December 12 at a lecture at the Russian Embassy in Washington.
"Russia and Russian culture have helped me understand who I am. Russian culture gave me this gift, and now I'm giving it back to the world," RIA Novosti quoted Broomfield as saying.
The scientist shared the story of his first book "Gold in Azure: a Thousand years of Russian Architecture", which explores the history of architecture from Byzantium to the present day. He noted that its publication in the United States was difficult and became possible only thanks to his position as an associate professor at Harvard in the 1970s.
Working on this book, according to Broomfield, cost him a place at Harvard University, but opened up the opportunity for collaboration with the National Gallery of Art. A copy of the publication is now stored in the Library of Congress.
On December 10, American actor Steven Seagal talked about how he likes to celebrate the New Year in Russian, with large tables filled with food, numerous guests and toasts. According to him, he is happy to celebrate another New Year with the same traditions.
