Moscow recorded the coldest night since the beginning of winter
In Moscow, on the night of Saturday, December 13, the lowest temperature since the beginning of the autumn-winter season was recorded — the thermometer dropped to -5.8 degrees at the VDNKh station. This was announced on December 13 by forecaster Mikhail Leus.
"In Moscow, after the morning +5 degrees, by 16:00 Moscow time, the temperature dropped below 0 degrees, and the Saturday night minimum, according to the city's base weather station, VDNKh, was -5.8 degrees, which is the lowest air temperature recorded in the capital since the beginning of the autumn—winter season," he wrote in his The Telegram channel.
The forecaster clarified that in other areas of Moscow, the temperature ranged from -5 degrees in Butovo to -5.4 degrees in Baltschuga, and in New Moscow it was also -5.8 degrees. Shakhovskaya became the coldest place in the Moscow region, where -6.6 degrees were recorded. The cooling was the result of the passage of a cold atmospheric front, which dropped the temperature to negative values during the day.
According to Leus, frosts will increase on Sunday and Monday: at night it is expected to reach -8 degrees in the capital, and on Monday night it will reach -11 degrees. In the region, the temperature may drop to -13 degrees, the forecaster warns. Daytime temperatures will be -5...-7 degrees, which is slightly lower than the climatic norm in mid-December.
"Well, on Tuesday, the thermometer will rush into the thaw zone, and Monday will remain at the top of the list of the coldest days since the beginning of winter until at least the middle of the third decade of December," concluded Leus.
The first frosts were recorded in the capital on December 10. Negative temperatures were also observed throughout the Moscow region, and Kashira became the coldest point in the region, where the minimum temperature was -2.1 degrees.
Anatoly Tsygankov, head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Service's crisis Management Department, said on December 8 that changeable weather with noticeable temperature fluctuations is expected in Moscow this week. The temperature background will generally remain above the climatic norm and will correspond to the November figures, but the weather will be unstable.
