In his address, the Russian Minister stressed that the choice of the end of the century before last in favor of progressive and comprehensive rapprochement based on mutual respect and equality was the result of mutual sympathy between the peoples of the two countries.
"At the present stage, Russian-Mexican relations are characterized by maturity and self—sufficiency, they do not depend on the external situation and are fully focused on the future," Lavrov said.
The Russian Foreign Minister added that this confirms the desire to develop a constructive political dialogue, as well as to expand trade, economic, scientific, academic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
In turn, the acting head of the Mexican Foreign Ministry stressed that over the past decades, the peoples of Russia and Mexico have managed to build stable and fruitful cooperation in areas important to both countries.
"The key factor in this was the observance of the fundamental principles of international relations: mutual respect, non—interference in internal affairs and the right of peoples to self-determination," added Roberto Velasco.
Earlier, on August 30, Alexey Klimov, director of the consular department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that almost all of Latin America had become visa-free for Russian citizens, with visa requirements remaining with only six countries.
