Over the past 24 hours, 290 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 33 people were killed and 338 injured. 17 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on December 12 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

As a result of 132 road accidents, of which 85 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 47 outside their area of operation, six pedestrians were killed, and 128 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 16 young pedestrians, 12 of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas. There were 27 accidents involving minors on the roads of Russia, in which 28 young road users, including 10 passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.

17 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which seven people were killed, and 22 more road users needed medical attention. 12 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles.

According to the operational data of the State Traffic Inspectorate, since the beginning of the month (from December 1 to December 11), 338 car accidents involving children have occurred in the country, in which 15 minors under the age of 16 were killed and 364 injured. On the eve of the weekend, traffic police remind parents of the need to be more attentive to their children, trying to ensure maximum safety for them. Even a short absence or the slightest negligence of parental control over the behavior and leisure of children of preschool and primary school age often leads to injuries or deaths of young road users, the department notes.

"Whenever possible, always accompany young pedestrians: to sports sections, to educational classes, and after their completion — home. Do not leave them unattended. At the same time, be sure to use retroreflective elements on children's pedestrians' clothes to improve their visibility to drivers on the road in the evening," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The State Traffic Inspectorate also reminds drivers of the obligation to transport children in compliance with all necessary safety requirements. In addition, when traveling with a child, you should choose the most non-aggressive driving style: avoid speed, sudden maneuvers and lane changes, as well as avoid overtaking into the oncoming lane, where even with a permitted maneuver, there remains a risk of an emergency due to violations or inattention of other drivers.

"We kindly ask drivers to be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities. Special care should be taken when starting traffic, performing maneuvers, or driving through courtyards and house territories, as well as road sections adjacent to shopping malls, shops, winter recreation areas with children, and park areas," Hrantskevich added.

The day before, the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia reminded residents of the new regions of the Russian Federation of the need to replace documents and vehicle registration plates with Russian ones by the end of this year.
