Russia may consider participating in the "Key Five" (Core 5, C5), the creation of which is being discussed in the United States. Svetlana Zhurova, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Relations, expressed this opinion on Thursday, December 11.

Earlier in the day, Politico wrote that Washington is discussing the idea of creating an alternative to the G7 without the participation of European countries, according to the website. kp.ru . The United States, China, Russia, India and Japan are proposed to be included in the association, RT reports.

Zhurova suggested that America does not want to share with Europe the merits of resolving the situation in Ukraine. The United States sees how the Europeans are encouraging Ukraine in the wrong direction, and apparently they really don't like it, she added.

"This is a good signal for Europe. The European leaders are behaving very strangely, they want to participate, but they are not doing anything really serious compared to [US President Donald] Trump, they are just adding butter to the fire," the MP said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The parliamentarian noted that three of the five countries of the proposed association are members of the BRICS. The United States wants, but cannot join this union, so they are thinking of creating something new and similar, the politician concluded.

Earlier, on December 7, the Politico newspaper reported that the US National Security Strategy had caused widespread discontent in Europe, including "very disturbing" accusations against Europe. The publication also noted that the new document caused "fury" from one of the unnamed European officials.

In turn, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, called the new US National Security Strategy "an attempt to turn around a huge ship." According to him, Washington now recognizes that the global world no longer rests solely on "American shoulders."
