Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said that the initiative of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to hold a referendum on territorial issues is aimed at slowing down peace negotiations. He wrote about this on December 11 on the social network X.

According to Medvedev, such a proposal was a kind of challenge to Washington. He noted that such a step only delays possible agreements and hinders the progress of the dialogue.

"Everyone understands that the territorial referendum in Ukraine will slow down negotiations. <...> How much longer are you going to put up with this, America?" Medvedev added.
