A Russian developer has created and successfully tested a platform for countering drones. It is based on the Jupiter complex, which was originally created to organize and control UAV flights for civilian purposes. The system includes various means of reconnaissance, surveillance, jamming and an interceptor drone. Such complexes will strengthen the protection of civilian facilities, they should be used everywhere, experts believe.

How the anti-UAV platform works

Russia has developed an anti-drone platform that can be used in Russian regions to prevent UAV attacks. In it, the means of detecting, tracking and countering UAVs are connected in a single contour.

—The Jupiter complex became the base for the system,— the Azimut development company (part of Rostec State Corporation) told Izvestia. — Initially, it was created to organize the air traffic of unmanned aircraft in the regions. In our system, he provided unified management and processing of data coming from specialized tools. The complex can plan and monitor the performance of flights, record deviations from flight plans. The solution also allows you to identify unmanned aircraft that fly without appropriate permits and identifiers, predict threats and provide information to counteraction systems.

The complex includes radar and electronic reconnaissance equipment, a video surveillance system with acoustic detection in forests, an optical and thermal imaging system, as well as a MAS 2700 surveillance system.

The platform uses the Strizh-3, Sphere-MB, Harpoon-3 and Dagger interceptor systems as means of countering drones. Strizh-3 is a stationary complex, it operates at a distance of up to 2 km. Sphere-MB is a mobile system that can automatically suppress control signals from small drones. The Harpoon-3 is an anti—drone rifle.

— During the testing process, steady detection and detection of intruder drones in the controlled area was recorded. The Jupiter's screen displayed all the necessary information about UAVs and protected areas, violations and threats. The intruder UAVs were successfully suppressed,"Azimut reported.

The ERA-Glonass system, as well as on-board devices, is responsible for drone identification.

"Such systems should be used everywhere," Dmitry Kornev, editor of the Militaryrussia portal, told Izvestia. — And if this is done on the basis of a ready-made solution, then its cost should be relatively low. Probably, the platform can appear quickly enough to all potential consumers.

If the software solution is based on an existing airspace control system, then this is the right approach, the expert believes.

— This system, integrated with the means of detecting aircraft, with minor changes, can become a system for detecting and guiding intruder drones. Obtaining access to it by means of air defense gives target designation. The information system provides a simple, convenient, understandable way to receive information, view it on the screen and transmit it to consumers. This significantly increases the effectiveness of organizing air defense against any unidentified flying objects," concluded Dmitry Kornev.

The development of interceptor drones has become one of the most promising areas today, military expert Yuri Lyamin told Izvestia.

"A missile can miss during interception and cause damage to objects on the ground," he explained. — An interceptor drone, especially if it is kinetic, without explosives, safer, it can be placed on a large number of civilian objects. Such developments are currently underway in different countries.

One of the most important things in the fight against UAVs is their timely detection, the expert noted.

— In the production of drones, materials are used that are poorly detected by radar stations, so it is important that a large number of different detection tools work simultaneously, — said Yuri Lyamin. — This makes it more likely to "see" an incoming UAV at a sufficient distance and send an interceptor drone to it.

In an environment where drones pose a threat to a large number of regions — border and beyond — the development of means to detect and counter them is becoming one of the priorities, the expert explained.

— Our country should have maximum coverage by such means. Given the size of the territory, it is always a question of ensuring that such systems are relatively cheap and that they can be produced in large quantities.

What other anti-drone systems are there?

Earlier, Izvestia reported on the testing of a new drone protection system at airports in the Moscow region, Siberia and the Far East. She confirmed her capabilities — the system is capable of suppressing UAVs without interfering with the flight radio and communication systems of the air harbor.

In addition, Russia has developed a protection system for industrial and defense facilities, allowing it to control the area around them within a radius of 60 km. It consists of two contours. The middle one includes permanent monitoring points with multifunctional radar stations and control posts with thermal imaging and video equipment. UAVs with night vision systems and thermal imagers are used to control the remote observation area around the object.

The equipment and UAVs involved can monitor both the airspace and the situation on the ground.
