Zakharova pointed out that Callas did not understand the essence of freedom

Putting the European Union over freedom means completely misunderstanding its essence. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Izvestia on December 10, answering a question about the statement of the head of the European Commission (EC), Kai Kallas, about freedom.

"Freedom is an all—encompassing phenomenon, independent of the bureaucracy in Brussels. Putting the EU above freedom means completely misunderstanding its essence. <...> Kaya is unaware of anything, and the level of her legal awareness and socio-political training raises concerns for the future of the EU," Zakharova said.
