The State Duma adopted in the third reading a law on lowering from 18 to 14 the age required for swearing in a citizen of the Russian Federation upon obtaining citizenship. The text of the law was published on December 10 on the website of the legislative support system.
"In order to increase the patriotic spirit and consciously commit to comply with the Constitution of the Russian Federation and the legislation of the Russian Federation, the draft law proposes lowering the age of persons required to take the oath from 18 to 14 years, by analogy with the provisions of the federal constitutional laws of October 4, 2022 on the admission of <new regions> to the Russian Federation," the an explanatory note.
The text also says that if the applicant for Russian citizenship does not take the oath within one year from the date of filing the application, the decision will be considered invalid.
On December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on supporting the resettlement to Russia of foreigners with achievements in science, industry, sports, and culture. According to the text of the decree, the support also applies to those who have contributed to ensuring Russia's defense capability.
