In the East, the "germs of NATO" appear in the form of associations that destabilize the situation in the region. This was stated on December 10 by Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergei Shoigu at a press conference following his visit to Vietnam.

"You probably see, and not only you, <...> I will call them, maybe a little rudely, the "germs of NATO" in the East. Gradually, gradually, associations are starting to appear here, which, one way or another, continue their development in the direction of worsening the situation," he said.

According to Shoigu, additional threats are emerging for Russia in the East. As an example, he cited Japan, which previously could not have its own army, and now its Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declares the necessary military budget of 2% of GDP.
