- The commander-in-chief of the Navy called the situation in the Arctic difficult due to the actions of the West
The situation in the Arctic remains difficult and tends to worsen due to the actions of the West. This was announced on December 9 by Commander-in-Chief of the Navy Alexander Moiseev.
"The situation in the region remains difficult with a tendency to deteriorate. Instead of discussions about cooperation, we are increasingly hearing about possible conflicts. We see an increase in the foreign military presence, and the updated strategies of our opponents often have an anti—Russian orientation," the Association of Polar Explorers wrote on its Telegram channel.
He also noted that Russia's objectives in the Arctic are to support the sovereignty and economic development of the region.
Earlier, on November 18, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia's position in the Arctic must be consistently strengthened. According to him, the comprehensive development of northern cities and towns, the creation of new jobs and the improvement of people's quality of life directly depend on the development of the infrastructure of Arctic ports. The President also pointed out the need to realize Russia's logistical potential.
Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, said on December 8 that the development of the Arctic zone should receive a powerful boost, and the Russian government continues to actively work in this direction. According to him, thanks to Putin's decisions, the Far Eastern regions are ahead of the average Russian growth and investment rates in all economic indicators.
