The trade turnover between Russia and Hungary is growing despite the actions of the European Union (EU). This was announced on December 9 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting in Moscow with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto.

"But despite all these difficulties, the trade turnover is growing thanks to the efforts made by the relevant departments of Russia and Hungary," he said.

According to Lavrov, cooperation between the two countries is ensured, in particular, through the development of the electric power industry.

"In general, the electric power industry occupies a priority place in our relations and this sector is also developing steadily," he added.

In addition, the leaders of the two countries are considering the issue of resolving the situation in Ukraine through the prism of respect for international standards. Lavrov expressed his intention to exchange views with Szijjarto on this issue.

"I will be ready to share our assessments of the events and contacts that took place after the meeting of the President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin and [Hungarian] Prime Minister Viktor] Orban," the minister concluded.

On December 6, Orban announced the visit of a large delegation to Russia, noting that Hungary is actively negotiating with Russia on strategic and economic cooperation after the lifting of sanctions.

During the talks between Orban and Putin in the Kremlin on November 29, the Russian leader also said that relations between Russia and Hungary are based on pragmatism and "the best of what has happened" in their history. Putin noted his long-standing acquaintance with Orban, as well as the fact that, despite all the difficulties, the countries' relations continue to develop.
