Researchers have named a simple way to improve skin through nutrition.
Scientists at the University of Otago presented research data according to which daily consumption of two golden kiwis significantly improves skin condition. This was reported in the journal Science Focus.
The study involved 24 people. For eight weeks, each of them ate two golden kiwis a day. This diet provided an additional serving of vitamin C — about 250 mg, which is equivalent to several servings of citrus fruits or broccoli. Before and after the work, the scientists took skin samples to assess the effects of elevated vitamin C levels.
The results showed positive changes in all participants. Collagen production increased in the deep layers of the skin, which led to an increase in the thickness of the skin tissue. Cell renewal accelerated in the outer layers, and the skin looked healthier. At the same time, vitamin C levels in skin tissues and blood plasma increased.
The senior author of the study, Professor Margrit Vissers, emphasized that the skin is more sensitive to changes in diet than previously thought. According to her, many people rely on cosmetics and collagen supplements, but scientific evidence shows that nutrition plays a more significant role. Vissers noted that the body produces its own collagen, and a proper diet helps to enhance this process.
Experts recommended building a diet around plant—based foods and including one high-vitamin C product daily in the diet, such as sweet peppers, guava, kiwi, berries, oranges, broccoli, or cabbage.
On November 30, cosmetologist Anastasia Shibaeva and experts from the Golden Apple told Izvestia about skin hydration during the heated season. According to experts, dryness worsens the appearance of fine wrinkles and exacerbates chronic dermatoses, including eczema, atopic dermatitis and acne. It was clarified that basic home care with gentle cleansing without aggressive surfactants should be established for care. The experts named foams and cream gels as preferred.
