For many, the New Year's Eve atmosphere is associated not only with tangerines and the smell of a Christmas tree, but also with anxiety about what to give to loved ones. According to VTsIOM, 67% of Russians experience stress when preparing for the holidays, and 43% buy surprises at the last moment. Dmitry Titov, head of the Quality Management and Artificial Intelligence Implementation Department at AKFIX-RUS, told Izvestia on December 11 about how modern technologies can solve this problem.

According to him, AI is changing the very logic of choosing gifts: the main starting point is the person, not the product.

"Most people use AI incorrectly. They write: "Recommend a gift to mom" — and they receive general recommendations like "perfume or a certificate at the spa." It's like coming to a store and saying one word to the salesperson: "Gift."

In order for artificial intelligence to generate truly valuable offers, it is enough to follow a proven algorithm. It will help to approach the task systematically and get personalized, unobvious ideas from AI," the expert said.

According to him, a clear algorithm with a description of the person, context and budget allows the assistant to better understand the task and give personalized ideas that do not lie on the surface.

In addition, the specialist emphasized that artificial intelligence has limitations: it is unable to replace personal emotions and does not know unique stories from a person's life, so it will not offer a gift related, for example, to a long-standing memory. In such situations, according to him, the intuition and participation of the donor are important.

Titov also added that in the coming years, technology will become even more practical: voice assistants will be able to remember the history of gifts, analyze interests on social networks and help shape the holiday budget in advance.

"Technology saves the most valuable thing — your time and effort. They give you the opportunity to choose: to run shopping or to be with your family, to be nervous about gifts or to chat with friends," he concluded.

On December 4, Natalia Krasilnikova, PR director of the Mamba dating service, told Izvestia that on the eve of the New Year, many couples face difficulty choosing gifts: it seems that a loved one already has everything they need and it becomes difficult to buy something original. However, the main thing is not the cost, but attention to the habits and daily needs of the partner. Practical items tailored to a specific person remain a universal solution: a warm blanket, home clothes, a thermocup for those who are often on the road, a table lamp or a subscription to a useful service.
