Roskachestvo told about the dangers of low-quality artificial fir trees
When choosing a high-quality artificial Christmas tree, several criteria should be taken into account at once. First of all, it should be borne in mind that there is no regulatory technical regulation and GOST for this type of product, they do not have to undergo mandatory conformity assessment. But you still need to pay attention to the information from the manufacturer. On December 10, the press service of Roskachestvo told Izvestia about this.
"The label must contain information about the manufacturer, date and place of manufacture. It is not recommended to purchase products made more than five years ago, since such a spruce will last less," Roskachestvo clarified.
The main potential danger is represented by the materials used in the production of artificial Christmas trees. It is better to choose an artificial spruce with a metal rather than a plastic trunk — in this case the tree will emit fewer harmful substances. There should be no cracks or damage on the case itself. In a high-quality product, the needles are usually firmly fixed and do not fall out when held by hand along a branch against their growth.
It is worth refraining from buying products that, upon visual inspection and by smell, raise doubts about their quality. These are, for example, the most affordable models made of thin polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with a pungent, persistent chemical odor. Such an odor is an indicator of the possible release of harmful compounds. To make cheap PVC flexible, unwanted plasticizers can be used, which in a warm apartment can negatively affect well-being, causing irritation of the mucous membranes, sore throat, headache and allergic reactions. Children, the elderly, and those suffering from respiratory diseases or allergies are especially sensitive to such effects.
"Another critically important aspect is fire safety. It is recommended to purchase Christmas trees whose manufacturers have passed voluntary fire certification. The manufacturer's savings at this stage pose a direct threat: in case of accidental contact with a faulty garland or other source of open fire, there is a risk of ignition," the organization noted.
Igor Sorokin, Deputy head of Mosoblpozhspas, told on December 8 how to safely decorate a Christmas tree. According to him, a few simple rules must be followed to ensure safety when installing a Christmas tree. The main symbol of the holiday should stand on a stable foundation, away from heaters, batteries and open flames.
