Leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong-un has sent a telegram to Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed his deep condolences to the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang over the death of Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora. This was announced on December 9 by the Voice of Korea radio station.

"WPK Secretary General Kim Jong—un expressed his deep condolences to the Russian Embassy on the death of Comrade Matsegora," the statement said.

Earlier, on December 8, it was reported that the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to the DPRK, Alexander Matsegora, died at the age of 71. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed his outstanding contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries and expressed sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
