Industrial dust will be recycled in Russia
Industrial dust will be recycled in Russia: the Saratov region is preparing to launch the country's first production of zinc oxide from industrial steelmaking dust. This was reported to Izvestia on December 8 by the Russian Environmental Operator (REO).
The company will annually process more than 100 thousand tons of steelmaking dust, which will produce up to 30 thousand tons of zinc oxide. It is used in medicine and cosmetology as an antiseptic and protective component in creams, ointments and powders, in light and heavy industry as a filler and dye for rubber, polymers, paper and paint products.
Zinc oxide is also used in radio electronics, where it is used to produce varistors, phosphors, LEDs, sensor coatings, and laser materials. Zinc oxide is used in metallurgy in the manufacture of electrical cables, and in dentistry and surgery as a part of abrasives, cements and rubber products.
"The implementation of the project will significantly reduce the volume of industrial waste in the region and will become an example of the integrated implementation of the principles of circular economy in the metallurgical industry. The processing of steelmaking dust into a sought—after industrial product reduces the load on landfills and increases the share of secondary resources in the industrial cycle," said Irina Tarasova, CEO of REO.
Production will be launched at the Ekotsink LLC plant. The company is located in the Istok special economic zone and complies with the principles of the best available technologies. The project is being developed with the participation of REO within the framework of the sectoral government program for the involvement of industrial waste in economic turnover "Closed-loop Economy".
On November 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia must first meet its needs in the field of the military-industrial complex (MIC) in the context of a special operation (SVO).
