The Leninsky Court of St. Petersburg sentenced businessman Alexander Ebralidze to nine months in prison in a case of tax evasion in excess of 180 million rubles. This was announced on December 8 by the joint press service of the city courts.

"The court imposed a 9—month prison sentence with the deprivation of the right to engage in certain activities related to the organization and accounting for a period of 2 years," the statement said.

The investigation and the court found that from 2017 to 2020, Ebralidze, acting for selfish motives, organized a scheme to evade VAT by including deliberately false information in tax returns. To do this, he used the banking details of legal entities that were not actually engaged in business activities, executed imaginary transactions with them and used forged documents — contracts, invoices and acts of completed work.

These documents were then sent to the accounting department for accounting, which made it possible to illegally apply tax deductions. As a result, the budget suffered damage amounting to more than 181 million rubles. Ebralidze pleaded guilty, the case was considered in a special order.

Combined with the previous verdict of the Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg, the final sentence is 3.5 years in a general regime penal colony. However, in fact, only a new term will have to be served, since the entrepreneur has already served his previous sentence during the investigation. After the verdict was announced, Ebralidze was taken into custody in the courtroom.

On December 2, Sergey Egorov, the first deputy head of Nizhny Novgorod, was detained in a bribery case. The press service of the mayor's office added that, against the background of information about the detention of Egorov, the investigative authorities are being fully assisted.
