The cost of cancer diagnosis and treatment in Russia can be five or more times lower than in Western countries. This was announced on December 8 by the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko.

"The difference in the cost of cancer diagnosis and treatment can reach five times or more at a high—tech level, which in many ways is not comparable with the capabilities of many European countries," he said.

Murashko said that the cost of surgical treatment of breast, lung and abdominal cancers in Russia is five to seven times cheaper than in Germany, and two to three times cheaper than in South Korea. According to him, Russian quality and production make it possible to reduce the cost of medical procedures.

The minister noted that the cost of a plan for installing a stent or a two–chamber pacemaker in Russia is one and a half to three times lower than in Western countries. He stressed that Russia has unique technologies in the field of oncology, nuclear medicine and orthopedics, which are combined with competitive prices.

On the same day, Murashko said that Russia had managed to reduce cancer deaths and increase the five-year survival rate of patients by an average of 9-10%. According to him, new drugs have been used in the treatment, including personalized mRNA vaccines, so far for certain types of diseases.
