The price of copper reached a historic high, rising 1.3% to a record $11,771 per ton.

Quotations of three-month copper futures on the London Metal Exchange (LME) increased by 0.3% to $11,653 per ton by 2:25 p.m. Moscow time. At the same time, they rose to a record $11,771 per ton during the session.

"Supply shortages continue to provoke panic buying," The Wall Street Journal quoted ANZ Research analysts as saying.
