In Germany, the issue of renaming streets with Soviet names from the time of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) is being discussed. This was reported on December 6 by the German newspaper Bild.

"35 years after the unification, not a single street should be named after Lenin, Otto Grotewohl or Wilhelm Pieck. The street name is an expression of appreciation in our democratic society today," Evelyn Zupke, representative of the Socialist United Party of Germany (SED) for victims of the regime, said in a statement.

According to the newspaper, the renaming process has already begun in some cities. The local branch of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is trying to challenge these decisions in court.

The Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua" on January 17 reported that the Odessa authorities decided to rename the tree named after the Russian poet Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin to the "Western Sycamore Tree". They noted that the "Pushkin plane tree" grows near the monument to the poet. The tree is about 200 years old.
