German Foreign Minister Johann Wadefohl plans to raise the issue of rare earths and steel during his visit to China on December 8. This was reported on December 7 by the Reuters news agency, citing the words of the German Foreign Minister.

Vadefoul's visit to China on December 8 will be his first as foreign minister amid trade tensions between Beijing and Brussels, especially in areas such as chips, steel, electric vehicles and metals, the article says.

"Trade restrictions, especially on rare earth metals, are as much a cause for concern for our companies as restrictions on electric vehicles and steel production," Vadefoul said.

The article notes that restrictions on China's supply of rare earths and semiconductors have highlighted Europe's dependence, as well as the fact that Europe has been unable to localize supplies of strategic components.

The Reuters news agency reported on November 8 that Germany's ruling coalition plans to review its trade policy towards China, including on energy, raw material imports and Chinese investments in critical infrastructure, and will also create a committee of experts that will report to parliament.

The Bild newspaper said on October 28 that Berlin had sent a diplomatic note to Beijing over the ban on the supply of Chinese microchips to Europe. According to German Minister of Economy and Energy Katerina Reiche, the government has not yet been able to solve the problem of the shortage of chips.
