Vulin criticized the Serbian opposition's demand to take Russian property.
Pro-European members of the Serbian government and opposition are demanding the nationalization of the Russian-Serbian company Oil Industry of Serbia (NIS), but this issue can only be resolved through an agreement with Russia. This was announced on December 7 by Alexander Vulin, the founder of the Movement of Socialists party and former Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia.
"The pro-European opposition and pro-European ministers demand that Serbia seize Russian property and take away NIS. They easily forgot that these same Russians have been providing us with reliable supplies at the lowest prices for decades," Vulin said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
He stressed that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and most of the country's citizens remember the importance of honor and memory, otherwise "NIS would have been returned long ago," and Serbia would have sought its way to the EU through the sale of weapons to Ukraine and sending troops to minefields.
Vulin added that the decision on NIS should be made with Russia.
On November 15, Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Jedovic-Handanovic announced that the United States had demanded Russia's withdrawal from ownership of NIS as a condition for lifting sanctions against it. According to the minister, the Serbian authorities have received an extremely harsh signal from Washington.
In October, she also stated that the country was in an almost hopeless situation after the decision of the Council of the European Union (EU) to ban the transit of Russian gas, especially given the current problems around NIS. However, despite the complexity of the situation, she stressed that Belgrade is counting on the help of its President Aleksandar Vucic and his "excellent relations with world leaders."
