Rostov Football Club (FC) extended the contract with the head coach of the team after the club's victory over Rubin Kazan with a score of 2:0. This was announced on December 6 by the governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusar.

"We have made a decision with the headquarters, with the government, with the team <...> Jonathan, of course, you stay with us, we are extending the contract," Slyusar said in a video message posted on his Telegram channel.

He also noted that he had not enjoyed football so much for a long time, and thanked the players for their professionalism and dedication on the field. The team greeted the governor's decision with thunderous applause, and the coach himself happily waved a club scarf and smiled.

The Spaniard has been working at Rostov since 2018, and in February 2025 he took over the team after Valery Karpin resigned as head coach, Sport-Express adds.

Earlier, on November 30, Krasnodar beat Krylia Sovetov in the match of the 17th round of the Russian Premier League. The match took place in Krasnodar at the Ozon Arena stadium and ended with a score of 5:0. Krasnodar extended its unbeaten streak in the championship to eight matches and rose to first place in the standings with 37 points.
