- The US permanent Representative questioned the possibility of a Russian attack on NATO
Russia is not planning an attack on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This was announced on December 6 by the US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker at a forum in Qatar.
"I don't think there is a chance that this will happen (Russia's attack on a NATO country. — Ed.) in the near future. If it can happen at all. I think this probability is very low," he said.
Whitaker also clarified that the countries of the alliance take seriously their obligations under the fifth article of the North Atlantic Treaty, according to which the principle of collective protection is put into effect.
Earlier, on December 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia was not going to fight with Europe. According to him, the country is currently operating in Ukraine "surgically," but in the event of an attack by European countries on the Russian Federation, everything will be different.
