This is stated in a corresponding letter from Boris Chernyshov, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma, addressed to Mikhail Murashko, Minister of Health of the Russian Federation.

According to Chernyshov, 51% of the surveyed Russian citizens were found to have vitamin D deficiency, the most vulnerable of which was the group of minors. Along with this, there has been a negative trend over the past three years.
The Vice Speaker stressed that widespread vitamin D deficiency poses risks to the health of the Russian population. It is specified that the vitamin strengthens the immune, cardiovascular, and reproductive systems, prevents depressive states and severe infectious diseases.
Svetlana Zhuchkova, a pediatrician and gastroenterologist at the Sechenov Center for Motherhood and Childhood, said on November 20 that frequent colds, low academic performance and behavioral problems in children are often associated with a lack of nutrients, rather than laziness or personality traits. According to the doctor, during the experiment, the addition of fish oil from wild Kamchatka salmon to the children's diet led to significant improvements: participants were less likely to get sick, had easier infections, their memory, attention, sleep and appetite improved, and anxiety decreased. It was noted that vitamin D has a similar positive effect.
