Oscar-winning costume designer Theodore Pisztek dies at 91

Czech costume designer, Oscar winner Theodor Pisztek has died at the age of 92. This was reported on December 5 by the Associated Press, citing information from his family.

Pishtek's family reported that the master died on December 3 in the city of Mukarzhov, but did not provide details.

Pisztek won the Oscar for Best Costume Design in the film Amadeus (1984) directed by Milos Forman, which was shot in Prague. He later won the Cesar Award for his work on the film Valmont and was nominated for a second Oscar.

He has also worked on the films Dune by John Harrison, Arabela, Three Nuts for Cinderella, The People against Larry Flint — about a hundred projects in total. Pisztek collaborated with the theater ("The Queen of Spades", "Dracula", "The Count of Monte Cristo"), and also worked in the genre of animation and visual effects.

Pisztek was not only a costume designer, but also a keen racing driver. In 1958, he graduated from the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. Until the mid-1970s, he actively participated in auto racing as a pilot. Cars have also become the subject of his paintings, which have been exhibited in the United States and other countries.
