Traffic police denied stricter rules for registration of old cars
Information published by a number of media outlets about the allegedly planned introduction of regulations aimed at limiting the registration of vehicles with extended service life does not correspond to reality. This was reported to Izvestia on December 5 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The ministry explained that the list of grounds for vehicle registration and its termination is established by legislation in the field of registration, in particular, Federal Law No. 283-FZ of August 3, 2018 "On State Registration of Vehicles in the Russian Federation and on Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation."
"At the same time, the service life of the vehicle is not attributed to such grounds. The only criterion for the admission of vehicles to participate in road traffic, regardless of their service life, is the level of technical condition and compliance of the vehicle design with established safety requirements, which are confirmed, among other things, by the results of a technical inspection conducted in relation to them," the State Traffic Inspectorate emphasized.
In this regard, the issue of amendments to the legislation in the field of registration regarding restrictions for vehicles with extended service life is not being considered by the State Traffic Inspectorate, the department added.
A bill has been submitted to the State Duma, which proposes to tighten administrative liability for the illegal use of the "Disabled" sign on a vehicle, up to the deprivation of rights for up to three months. So, according to the document, which was made public on December 5, it is proposed to impose a fine of 7,500 rubles for citizens, 20 thousand rubles for officials and 500 thousand rubles for legal entities for abuse of the sign "Disabled", as well as to deprive rights for repeated violation for up to three months.
