Russians were given tips on planning a New Year's table without harm to the figure
Proper planning of the festive menu allows you to significantly reduce the cost of the New Year's table and avoid overeating. Preliminary detailed study of the list of dishes and calculation of the required amount of products can reduce financial costs by 20-30%, while minimizing risks to health and figure. Olga Matveeva, financial consultant of X5's Package service, told Izvestia on December 5 how to make a holiday tasty, profitable and compatible with a healthy lifestyle.
According to her, the main mistake that leads to excessive spending and food waste is cooking too many different dishes on a large scale.
"It's better to limit yourself to three or four main courses, one or two appetizers and one dessert. The average amount of ready—made food per person for a festive dinner is 300-350 grams," the specialist noted.
An important saving tool is to reduce the number of sauces, especially those based on mayonnaise. Replacing them with yogurt, lemon juice, or low-fat sour cream dressings not only reduces the calorie content of dishes by 20-40%, but also optimizes the budget, since sauces are often consumed in large quantities.
To prevent food spoilage and financial losses, Matveeva advises cooking first of all those dishes that have a longer shelf life. These include meat casseroles, vegetable salads without perishable dressings, and pastries. Perishable foods, such as fish appetizers and cream desserts, should be prepared in minimal quantities. It is advisable to plan the purchase of products in advance, using checklists and loyalty programs of retail chains to optimize costs.
"The festive atmosphere is created not only by the abundance of food, but also by pre-planned activities: games, walks and the exchange of gifts. This helps to shift the focus away from the feast and reduces the likelihood of overeating. A rational approach to the organization of the holiday allows you to celebrate the New Year without unnecessary expenses and with concern for well—being," concluded the specialist.
On December 4, it was reported that Russian tourists increasingly prefer to celebrate the New Year in nature, choosing active recreation away from the hustle and bustle of the city. In 2025, one in ten bookings are for nature destinations, reflecting the growing interest in hiking and scenic walks.
