Likhachev announced the provision of safety at the Zaporizhia NPP
Rosatom State Corporation is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), and this position is fully supported by the leadership of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This was announced on December 3 by Alexey Likhachev, head of the Rosatom State Corporation.
"We will do everything to prevent any new risks, any excesses related to the safety of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. And this position is fully supported by the IAEA leadership during the negotiations," he said.
Likhachev noted that yesterday the next rotation of the IAEA experts took place directly at the station site. Thanks to the actions of the Ministry of Defense, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Rosatom Security Unit, the procedure was carried out without risks to people.
The General director of the state corporation added that the situation in the Zaporizhia region remains difficult, there are arrivals to Energodar and the coastline, which causes serious concern. Despite this, Rosatom will do everything to ensure that the IAEA experts celebrate the New Year and Christmas holidays with dignity even in these conditions.
On November 27, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi announced that hostilities had resumed near the nuclear power plant. It is noted that the IAEA staff's rounds of the station continue, even despite the sounds of fighting nearby. So, the other day, experts visited two machine rooms and radioactive waste storage facilities. This is done to monitor and evaluate nuclear safety at a nuclear facility.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted on November 28 that Russia highly appreciates cooperation with the IAEA. He pointed out that the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, and the head of the Rosatom State Corporation, Alexei Likhachev, are in constant contact and regularly exchange information in the context of the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
On the same day, the next scheduled change of IAEA inspectors was successfully carried out at the NPP. The previous, 31st, team of inspectors carried out a lot of work at the facility, monitoring the conditions of safe operation of the plant during its complete external de-energization for 30 days. Repair work on external power transmission lines was also completed at this time.
