Deptrans talked about measures to improve taxi safety
Moscow is systematically working to improve the level of safety and quality of taxi passenger service, the metropolitan Department of Transport said.
Mandatory driver certification has become one of the key elements of this work. The exam tests knowledge of the rules of service, orientation in the city and the ability to act in non-standard situations. It is conducted online or face-to-face in certification centers. For successful completion, it is enough to answer 8 out of 10 questions. The certificate of completion appears in a special register — the certification is valid for two years.
"Today, over 200,000 drivers work in Moscow and the region. We have made their professionalism a quality guarantee by introducing mandatory certification for knowledge of all standards. As a result, each driver entering the line confirmed his qualifications, which allowed us to improve both the quality of service and the level of passenger safety," said Sergey Alekseuk, Head of the Taxi Transportation Development Department of the Department of Transport.
The city also supports the renewal of the taxi fleet: since 2012, Deptrans has been providing subsidies to carriers to offset part of the cost of buying cars. In total, they received 2.25 billion rubles and purchased more than 78 thousand cars.
In addition, starting in 2026, Moscow decided to adjust the cost of a patent for taxi drivers — it will amount to 9 thousand rubles per month. Now the patent is worth 3.4 thousand rubles. At the same time, 75% of taxi drivers work as self-employed and on average pay about 9 thousand rubles per month in the form of professional income tax. "Leveling the patent to this level is aimed at creating equal conditions for all market participants and at further sustainable development of the industry," the Deptrans noted.
"There are no reasons for an increase in travel prices due to this innovation. A review of the patent value is needed to remove the current tax bias and make the rules more honest for everyone in the market," said Inna Svyatenko, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council.
