- In Bavaria, schoolchildren will hold a protest against the law on military service in Germany
Schoolchildren in the German state of Bavaria announced their intention to hold a mass protest on December 5, the day the Bundestag considered the draft law on the modernization of military service in Germany. This was announced on December 3 on the campaign's website.
"We won't go to school on December 5th! We will strike against military service and against any other compulsory service," the page says.
The protest action is planned to be held in Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg and other cities of Bavaria, including Landshut, Rosenheim, Eichstatt and Kempten. The participants claim that the law is passed without taking into account their opinions, and compulsory service will deprive them of their freedom.
The action was supported by the Trade Union of Education Workers (GEW). At the same time, the German Ministry of Culture warned that participation in political events is not included in the educational program and it is impossible to be excused from classes on this occasion.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, amid discussions in Germany about a new law on military service, said on November 12 that everyone should serve in the army. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in turn, recalled the Germans' promise not to wage war.
