- The State Duma adopted a law on tightening control over the finances of extremists and terrorists
The State Duma adopted in the third reading a draft law on tightening control over financial transactions of persons involved in extremism or terrorism. The relevant information was posted on the website of the legislative support system on December 2.
Amendments are being made to the laws "On Countering the Legalization (Laundering) of Proceeds from crime and the financing of terrorism" and "On Special Economic Measures and Coercive Measures."
According to the document, we are talking about the suspension of operations on bank accounts and deposits, as well as other operations against persons involved in sabotage activities. Currently, this rule applies to those involved in extremist activities, terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
In June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the freezing of funds and other property of persons involved in sabotage and their financing. The law allows the interdepartmental commission on countering the financing of terrorism to make decisions on blocking funds and other property of individuals or legal entities if there are grounds to suspect them of involvement in sabotage and their financing.
