The daughter of the governor of the Murmansk region became a victim of fraud
The daughter of the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrey Chibis, was subjected to extortion and blackmail by fraudsters. A criminal case was opened. This was announced by the head of the region on November 28.
"My daughter Lisa has become a victim of fraud. And it all started with a banal code for receiving delivery. And as a result, it turned out to be blackmail, threats, and, unfortunately, a very clear psychological and professional threat against her personally and other family members. Thus, the scammers even forced her to give up certain money," Chibis said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.
The head of the region added that threats continue, including through fake messages on social networks, and that law enforcement agencies are already dealing with this case. He also noted that he decided to share the incident with the public in order to warn others against possible fraud.
On November 28, the Department for Combating the illegal use of information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reported that there is a likely risk of fraud victims being deceived again, as they wish to return the lost funds. It was clarified that after encountering scammers, a person often looks for a way to "return the money" or at least understand what to do next. And it is at this point that the risk of repeated deception becomes maximum.
