US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Nicolas Maduro, the president of Venezuela, last week, during which they discussed the possibility of a bilateral meeting. This was reported on November 28 by the New York Times (NYT).

"They discussed a possible meeting between them, but nothing is planned, and the administration continues to increase military pressure on Venezuela," the publication says.

It is noted that the conversation took place at the end of the week and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also participated in it. During the discussion, the possibility of a meeting in the United States was considered, but at the moment there are no specific plans for its holding.

Earlier, on November 18, Trump said during a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House that the United States was ready for a direct dialogue with the Venezuelan leadership.
