To blow smoke: the troops of the RCBZ began to arm unmanned boats
The troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection (RCBZ) have begun to receive unmanned boats, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Izvestia. The new vehicles will be especially relevant during the course of the military operation when crossing rivers, conducting amphibious operations and protecting naval bases. They will be used to set up smoke screens and conduct radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance, as well as to strike at the enemy, experts say.
In an area of intense infection
Marine unmanned boats (backboats) began to arrive in the units of the RCBZ troops. These platforms have performed well during a special military operation, sources in the Russian Defense Ministry told Izvestia.
According to the interlocutors, the RCBZ troops are now increasing the capabilities of their units using sea, air and ground unmanned robotic systems. This step reflects the latest trends in the development of military robotic technology, experts say.
"First of all, the backups will be used to conduct reconnaissance," military expert Vasily Dandykin told Izvestia. — Do not forget that drones are good at searching for traces of the use of chemical or biological weapons, as well as radioactive contamination in the waters of rivers, lakes and coastal areas. This is one of the most important and most dangerous tasks of the RCBZ units.
Backups allow for long-term round-the-clock monitoring of remote areas, Oleg Zheltonozhko, an expert in the field of RCB protection, told Izvestia.
"This is an ideal platform for carrying sensitive monitoring equipment into areas of potential infection," he said. — Thanks to their large power reserve and automated operation, they can provide round-the-clock surveillance in predefined geographical regions, including remote ones.
The main advantage of backups is that they can operate in areas with a high level of infection, completely eliminating the risk to personnel. Backups will also increase the effectiveness of smoke screen installations — this is also a traditional task of the RCMP troops, said Vasily Dandykin.
— Maneuverable backups are used to protect aerosols from high-precision weapons and enemy reconnaissance equipment of ports, crossings, coastal fortifications or critical facilities such as nuclear power plants. One of them, as we know, is located near the city of Zaporizhia, not far from the line of contact," the expert said.
The functionality of unmanned boats is not limited only to the specialized tasks of the RCBZ. The expert drew attention to the possibility of installing weapons on them, including flamethrower systems.
"This transforms backups from purely reconnaissance platforms into multi—purpose systems that are able to effectively solve fire support or cover tasks,— Dandykin continued. — The RCBZ troops traditionally use flamethrower-incendiary weapons. The installation of such systems on boats allows striking coastal targets, supporting the landing or withdrawal of units.
In addition, electronic warfare (EW) systems and equipment can be installed on boats, which will enhance the protection of our troops, equipment, ships and ports from drones or high-precision enemy weapons.
The trend towards robotics
The experience of recent conflicts, in particular the events on the Black Sea, where semi-submersible attack drones are actively used, shows how rapidly this technology is developing.
The introduction of backups is part of the general trend towards robotics, which concerns both UAVs and land—based drones, such as the tracked platform of the Uranus type, Oleg Zheltonozhko believes. Unmanned boats are a promising type of weapon that makes the RCBZ troops more flexible, invulnerable and capable of solving tasks in the most difficult conditions of modern conflict.
"Currently, the stage of selection and experimental development of experience is underway to determine the most suitable and effective platforms — in the future, their development will become the basis for entire lines of military equipment," he concluded. — According to experts, the Russian RCBZ troops have tremendous experience and are considered one of the best in the world, and the introduction of advanced technologies only strengthens this potential.
As a result, unmanned boats, along with aerial and ground drones, become the eyes and shield of the RCBZ. By performing the most risky tasks without loss of personnel, ensuring secrecy, this promising type of weapon makes troops more maneuverable and stable, and the range of their missions will certainly only grow over time.
Novelties of the RCBZ troops
Izvestia reported on the appearance of specialized UAVs for radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance in parts of the RCBZ. These aircraft are capable of surveying the area, carrying out aerosol camouflage of objects, as well as carrying out special processing of equipment and sanitary treatment of personnel.
The personnel undergo intensive training to maintain new equipment and perform combat missions. RCBZ units have already launched courses for operators of unmanned complexes, both standard copters and high—speed FPV drones. Moreover, there are special groups whose main goal is to counter enemy UAVs.
During the courses, military personnel master the full cycle of working with drones: from theory and practical control to reconnaissance tactics and accurate adjustment of artillery fire.
Simultaneously with the development of aviation, RCBZ specialists are working to increase the combat potential of unmanned vehicles and improve flamethrower and incendiary devices.
In particular, a new RPO-2 rocket-propelled infantry flamethrower is being developed. The key feature of this complex is the possibility of its installation on UAVs. It is expected that these weapons will become an extremely valuable tool in preparation for an assault and the capture of heavily fortified positions, especially in urban areas or on the territory of large industrial enterprises.
