What happened

As a result of the shooting, two employees of the US National Guard were seriously injured. After the attack, the scene was cordoned off by police officers, who later reported the suspect's arrest.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said US President Donald Trump had been informed of the incident. Later, on the Truth Social network, the politician reported that both victims were taken to different hospitals in critical condition. At the same time, the attacker himself was wounded during the shootout.

After the incident, the governor of the US state of West Virginia, Mike Morrisey, reported on the social network X that both injured soldiers allegedly died. However, he later withdrew his statement.

The head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, promised to appeal to the Minister of the American Army, Daniel Driscoll, so that the National Guard would send an additional 500 troops to Washington. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) classified the incident as an attack on National Guard officers.

What is known about the motives of the attack

As US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said during a speech at the Fort Campbell military base, at the moment the motives of the shooter and the circumstances of the incident have not been established. At the same time, he noted that soldiers of the active army, reserve and National Guard are "the sword and shield of the United States," and their service requires constant readiness to threats.

Later, Jeff Carroll, Assistant Chief of Police for Special Operations at the Metropolitan Police Department, informed that the attacker acted alone and ambushed the military.
