Lavrov commented on Ukraine's purchase of Rafale fighter jets
On November 25, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the agreement on the supply of French Rafale fighter jets to Ukraine.
"There are a lot of discussions going on right now about who will pay for it (the transfer of Rafale fighter jets), but this is most likely a question for French taxpayers," he is quoted as saying in an interview on the YouTube channel of the Franco-Russian Dialogue Association, published on the Foreign Ministry's website.
In addition, the minister said that Russophobia in Europe has deep historical roots, recalling that two world wars began because of the ambitions of European leaders. According to him, aggression with a Russophobic accent continues to exist in Europe, and the former goodwill of Western politicians towards Russia was just a game.
The ten-year Ukrainian-French declaration, which provides for Kiev's plans to purchase French weapons, in particular Rafale fighter jets, was signed on November 17. On the same day, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, called the deal corrupt, because of which Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, leader of the right-wing Get Up, France party, even demanded that Macron be impeached.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the supply of Rafale fighter jets would not change the situation for Kiev. Peskov also noted that Paris's actions would not contribute to achieving peace. At the moment, France is engaged in "inciting military and pro-military sentiments," he added.
