The Russian language includes at least 200 thousand words with fixed spelling and meaning. This was announced on November 25 by the editor-in-chief of the portal "Gramota.<url>", Candidate of Philological Sciences Ksenia Kiselyova.

"You can take a look at the academic spelling resource Akademos, which shows how words are written. There are now more than 200 thousand units of the Russian language in it — words, the first parts of words (cyber, radio, mini), proper names. These are the words that have a fixed spelling," Kiselyova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

She stressed that it is impossible to calculate the exact number of words, since in the Russian language it is possible to form new words from almost any existing one: for example, from "tariff" comes "tariff", and from "maneuver" — "catch".

According to Kiselyova, in order for a foreign student to understand Russian and express thoughts in everyday life, the B1 level is sufficient, which means knowing about 2-3 thousand words and the ability to make meaningful sentences out of them.

Earlier, on November 1, the Pushkin Institute named the longest word in the Russian language. It was clarified that it consists of 55 letters and is found in the name of a patent for an invention registered in 2006.
