- Maximum daily gas withdrawals from underground storage facilities were recorded in Europe
Insufficient gas reserves in Europe's underground storage facilities (UGS) in conditions of severe or prolonged cold weather may endanger the gas supply to consumers. This was reported on November 24 in the Telegram channel of the Russian energy company Gazprom.
"According to Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE), on November 19, 20 and 21, the maximum daily gas withdrawals from European UGS facilities in the entire history of observations were recorded for these days," the report says.
According to the company, this year the gas extraction season began on October 13, with the UGS filling at 83%. It is noted that by November 21, these figures had dropped below 80%, which, in turn, reflected the lowest value on this date for the last 10 years.
Earlier, on September 2, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, said that European countries do not understand the scale of the problem with pumping gas into UGS facilities for the heating season. According to him, the current dynamics of pumping indicates that it will be difficult for some European countries to achieve the target of 90% of UGS occupancy.
