Push-button traffic lights will be installed on major highways in Chita in 2026

Push-button traffic lights will appear in Chita on sections of heavy public and motor transport in 2026. A similar one will be installed in the city by the end of 2025. The rest will appear no later than the second quarter of next year.

This, according to the news agency ChitaMedia, was told by Mayor Inna Shcheglova at a plenary meeting in the city administration. Marina Popova, the head of the Municipal Economy Committee, was instructed to calculate the funds needed for the implementation of this project.

The mayor noted that citizens are already accustomed to using push-button traffic lights, but acts of vandalism are being recorded. Pedestrians break the buttons, they have to be changed frequently.

Earlier, on November 23, it was reported that a 30-year-old resident of the region, who is accused of a fatal accident with two dead women, was taken into custody in Chita. According to the investigation, on the evening of November 20, on Marshal Zhukov Avenue in Chita, a man, while driving a Toyota Allion car, lost control and hit two pedestrians. The women died on the spot. After the accident, the driver tried to escape, but was detained by eyewitnesses.
