Cherchesov called Simonyan's death a great loss for Russian and world football.
On November 24, the coach of the Akhmat football club Stanislav Cherchesov, in an interview with the Sport-Express newspaper, expressed his condolences to the entire football community over the death of the 1956 Olympic football champion, ex-striker of FC Spartak and the USSR national team Nikita Simonyan.
He called the incident a great loss not only for Russian, but also for world football. He also mentioned that he had been in close contact with the ex-striker when he started playing in the USSR national team, and he was its captain.
"I haven't been in Moscow lately, but we've been on the phone all the time. A lot has happened over the years. <...> My condolences to the entire football community, and of course to the family and friends," Cherchesov concluded.
Alexander Mirzoyan, President of the Russian Football Veterans Union, announced on November 23 that Simonyan had died. According to him, the man felt unwell on Thursday, November 20, after which he was hospitalized.
