Death toll from flooding in central Vietnam rises to 55
The number of victims of floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in Central Vietnam has increased to 55, 13 people are still missing. This was reported by Reuters on November 22, citing local authorities.
"Over the past week, precipitation has exceeded 1,900 mm in some parts of central Vietnam," the publication notes.
According to the ministry, the greatest damage was caused by the disaster in the provinces of Daklak, Khanh Hoa and Zialai, where more than 200 thousand houses, schools, medical institutions and administrative buildings were destroyed and damaged.
As a result of floods and landslides, almost 63 thousand hectares of agricultural land, more than 100 thousand hectares of fruit plantations were affected, and 3.5 million farm animals and birds died. Economic losses are tentatively estimated at 9 trillion DONG (over $340 million).
On November 20, it became known that more than 40 people were killed and dozens were missing in the central provinces of Vietnam as a result of floods. The largest number of deaths was counted in the province of Daklak — their number was 16 people. In addition, deaths were reported in three other provinces of Khanh Hoa, Lamdong, Gialai, as well as in the cities of Hue and Da Nang.
