Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has admitted that in 2020 he approached the United States with a proposal to lift sanctions on Nord Stream 2 in exchange for the construction of terminals for American liquefied natural gas (LNG). "This is the first time Scholz has publicly admitted to writing a letter to the U.S. government.
