- In Germany, they told about Scholz's attempt to conclude a gas deal with the United States
Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has admitted that in 2020 he approached the United States with a proposal to lift sanctions on Nord Stream 2 in exchange for the construction of terminals for American liquefied natural gas (LNG). This was reported on November 21 by the Ostsee-Zeitung newspaper.
"This is the first time Scholz has publicly admitted to writing a letter to the U.S. government. In it, as Federal Minister of Finance in the summer of 2020, he proposed to Germany the possibility of building LNG terminals for the long-term purchase of American natural gas. The condition is that the United States waives sanctions [against Nord Stream 2]," the article says.
