The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika as a symbol of hate, according to a new policy that will take effect next month. This was reported on November 21 by The Washington Post (WP).

It is noted that instead, the Coast Guard plans to characterize the emblem as "potentially inciting discord." The amendments come into force on December 15. Along with this, a similar classification will be applied to the Confederate flag, the display of which is prohibited in the United States, except in cases of its use in historical exhibitions or as an element of a work of art.

Coast Guard spokeswoman Jennifer Plozai, after the WP publication, expressed disagreement with the information in the material, and therefore the service intends to study policy changes in order to revise the wording.

Earlier, on August 28, the Finnish Air Force Command decided to remove the swastika from the flags of its units. It was clarified that the reason for the changes was external pressure and uncomfortable situations that arise when cooperating with foreign partners, in particular with the Americans. The swastika has been used in the symbols of the Finnish Air Force since 1918, and until 1945 it was applied to airplanes. In the 1950s, the symbol appeared on flags.
